Teaching style and problem solving: a contribution to the teaching-learning process in the clinical practice of pediatric optometry

Abstract

This research was central axis teaching and learning processes that take place in clinical practice of Pediatric Optometry of the Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina, Bogotá. <em><strong>Objective:</strong></em> contribute to learning the clinical management of pediatric patients of students VII semester of Optometry from teaching style of teaching and implementation of the resolution of problems such as education strategy. Materials and <em><strong>Methods:</strong></em> the population under study was comprised of eigth students who entered VII semester for the first time the practice of Pediatric Optometry and a teacher of the area who played a dual role: researcher and a research subject. Qualitative approach was adopted for Research-Action in the classroom, designed according to the model of Carr and Kemmis (1989), which took place at three cycles. <em><strong>Results:</strong></em> experience showed that implementation of the resolution of problems in the educational processes improving the teaching style of teaching and learning of students in the clinical management of pediatric patients, evidenced through experience that promoted critical analysis of patients in consultation and decision-making compared to treatment to be followed in every situation as a real problem. Conclusions: experience showed that the implementation of the resolution of certain issues such as teaching strategy if it helps to improve teaching and learning of the clinical management of pediatric patients.
