<em><strong>Introduction:</strong></em> critical reading is the process of evaluating and interpreting evidence provided by scientific literature, by analyzing the results presented, their validity, relevance and applicability, in order to incorporate them in patient care.<em><strong>Objective:</strong></em> To apply concepts of critical reading of scientific articles to a case in the area of vision sciences.<em><strong> Materials and methods:</strong></em> To apply critical reading concepts, a literature search was carried out taking into account key words such as <em>critical reading and evidence-based medicine</em>. Subsequently, concepts of critical reading were applied to an article in vision sciences necessary permits were requested in order to use it in the analysis presented in this article, which applied guidelines from the website of Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Español (CASPe).<em><strong>Conclusion:</strong></em> The application of critical reading concepts to a scientific article in vision sciences, accompanied by the use of digital tools, helped to improve the comprehension and understanding of the text.
