Scleral lens in ectasia and irregular astigmatism postincisional ans lasik refractive surgery

Abstract

The scleral contact lenses provide to the cornea and to the limbo a source of lubricant liquid that allows the healing of a great quantity of defects and ocular illnesses. Objective: to evaluate visual acuity after surgery in patients fitted with scleral lenses and assess the patient’s comfort with the use of lenses through a survey. Methods: the type of study was case series with intervention, pilot study. Eight patients (13 eyes) who participated voluntarily selected men and women those who performed refractive surgery incisional method and / or lasik in any of its forms, and now have a ectasia and irregular astigmatism with decreased visual acuity, not have adapted to the current optical correction system. Excluding patients with any anterior segment. Results: The lens in 13 eyes were adjusted to the value of the flatter keratometry. Visual Acuity in all treated eyes improved with the use of the lens in three eyes were corrected to 3 lines of vision and the remaining 10 eyes were corrected 4 or more lines. Seven patients felt comfortable with the use of lenses. Conclusions: These lenses are comfortable, providing a therapeutic option for a special group of patients who have had difficulties with the lenses that we handle regularly.
