Abstract
The fast increase in the amount of silicone hydrogel contact lens adaptations, as well as theirphysical-chemical characteristics and possible complications in terms of comfort and tolerance, require the knowledge of the different factors that may cause them. The purpose of this articleis to review the aspects regarding the deposits in this type of lenses that affect not only their lifeutility but also their clinical behavior. The different materials, that is, the polymers that they aremade of, as well as the water content, hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity of the surface and surfacetreatments are some of the factors related to contact lenses. Molecular weight, electric charges, polarity and hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity are specific characteristics of each tear film component.Their interactions with contact lenses influence the adherence and characteristics of the deposits, with the subsequent clinical implications.
