Abstract
A descriptive study was carried out, using the Randot Test, in order to find out the degree of stereopsis in a sample of patients between 5 and 12 years old with medium and high refractive amblyopia at the Institute of Optometric Research at La Salle University. In order to test the hypothesis, a retrospective revision was carried out on the histories of patients that attended the orthoptic and pediatrics units at I.I.O., between 2002 and 2004. Two statistical tools were used for the research: Hypothesis Test and Linear Regression. In order to make a contrast of the hypothesis a T-Student distribution was used. It was found that in patients with low amblyopia the average value of stereopsis is 36,153 arc seconds, considered normal. It increases in patients with medium and high amblyopia reaching around 62916 arc seconds. In patients with monocular amblyopia the value for stereopsis is lower than in patients with binocular amblyopia.
