In search of the essential in optometry as a profession

Abstract

As the article goes on, you can see the way the Optometry has gone in Colombia, urgently searching fundaments that take us to find a professional philosophy which frames us the current project in the Optometry field and helps us reflect and join us to this pretentious, with the purpose of contributing and proposing intelligent solutions for the future of the profession The optometry studies should always go to the fundamental, to our professional project, thinking of some principles, and reflecting about the optometrist values which must result from the consensus of all its members, since the man is the optometrist and even more the optometrist society, base on an ethic, on a reality and searching for a better future, who should know, decide, solve, and act about what is good or bad. We should, in fact, inculcate our students and congregate the optometry professionals to know, to improve, and to fulfill the code of professional ethic that is the optometrist consensus for ourselves, which focuses us on a rule, guided to have a relationship with the patients, among colleagues and looking for the professional society benefit. Then we should integrate the knowledge and the scientific knowledge to the fundamental principal of the optometrist project which is the person, the patient, and our optometrist.
