Abstract
A descriptive study of the transversal cut was conducted for determinate the refractive ambliyopia prevalence into a child population between 3 and 8 years old at the Pediatryc Unit of the I. I. O. at the Salle University in Bogotá. 5.077 histories were reviewed of patients between January 1.999 and December 2.001. 136 cases were selected with diagnostic of refractive amblyopia for a prevalence of 2.68%. To realize the datacross it was found that near of the 80% patients presented lower amblyopia (Visual acuyte 0.5 or major) after they have used their correction minimum during a month. Almost the totality (93% in average) presented astigmatism, more specifically compound hipermetropic with the ruler (WTR) and mixed with the ruler (WTR).
