Visual alternatives in patients with low vision

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (OMS, 1994), a patient with low vision is one that with his best correction in the eye with greater visual acuity of vision has not improved to 20/60 and the visual field is 10 degrees or less. At this moment, there are over 200 million people in the world with low vision, That is why it is important to know and study this field, because there are many people who need the cooperation of healthcare practitioners to improve their quality of life. The purpose of this review article is to raise awareness about the generalities of low vision, diagnosis, behavior mainly given by the various optical, non optical and electronic aids, in order to supply the needs of the patient according to their expectations and motivation.
