Knowledge and application of the regulation to detect visual sharpness alterations

Abstract

Resolution number 412 of 2000, establishes the activities, proceedings and interventions in promotion and prevention in health, also establishes the attention regulations for the development of specific protection actions, early detection and attention to illnesses interesting for public health. One of those regulations is called Detection of Visual Sharpness Alterations, which includes appropriate techniques to register far and close sight. A research was carried out to determine the knowledge of the technical regulation to detect visual sharpness alterations by the students in the internship of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Militar Nueva Granada and other universities at the Military Central Hospital. Having in mind the proceeding of the regulation, a survey and a checking list were designed to determine the knowledge and its application. Both measurement instruments were twice evaluated by expert judges in order to review and suggest reforms; after the corrections were made and the validation was approved, the survey was applied to the interns. Data was converted in graphics and interpreted, and when the knowledge of the regulation was determined, it was concluded that teaching regarding detection visual alterations is not properly provided which creates inconsistence in medical consultations and appropriate remission.
