Abstract
The purpose was to determine the Efficiency of the Sub Epithelial Keratectomy Aided by Laser in light to moderate myopia. Methods: a retrospective transversal study was done by checking the clinical records at the Institute of Cornea in Bogotá of 71 patients with myopia without astigmatism to whom Lasek was practiced between January 2000 and June 2004. In order to verify the Efficiency of the procedure, the visual acuity without correction and preoperative spherical equivalent were related to the postoperative result a month later. Results: there were cases with visual acuity of 20/40 even or better 97% and with 20/20 72%. There was refraction between approximately 1.0 D in the 100% of cases There was refraction between more or less 0.5 D in the 69%. Preoperative spherical equivalent was -2.95D, with a result a month later of +0.02 D. Conclusions: Lasek is considered an efficient refractive surgery to correct light to moderate myopia.
